Who we are Basic information and organisation

Verband Region Rhein-Neckar is a regional association (or planning consortium) and thus exists outside the traditional administrative hierarchy. It is not a central authority but occupies a position between the region’s city, district and state authorities. The rights, duties and responsibilities of its bodies and committees are described in the association’s statutes.

The State Treaty defines its tasks, responsibilities, members, bodies and statutes as well as the means of providing financing and legal supervision.

The work of Verband Region Rhein-Neckar is primarily supported by contributions from its members. According to State Treaty, these are the cities of Heidelberg and Mannheim, and rural districts of Rhein-Neckar and Neckar-Odenwald (in Baden-Württemberg); the Bergstrasse district (in Hesse); and the independent cities of Frankenthal, Landau, Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Speyer, Worms, and the rural districts of Bad Dürkheim, Germersheim, Rhein-Pfalz and Südliche Weinstraße (in Rhineland Palatinate).
