Das Projekt „Regionalparkrouten“ verbindet bereits vorhandene Themen-Radwege in der Rhein-Neckar-Region miteinander zu sogenannten „Regionalparkrouten“ wie beispielsweise die Radwege Deutsche Weinstraße und Neckartal. So macht es die verschiedenen Kultur- und Naturräume der Region buchstäblich „am Stück“ erfahrbar. 

Die Ergänzungsrouten

Die die drei Regionalparkrouten werden durch zwei weitere Achsen ergänzt: 

Die Leimbachroute bildet die sogenannte Kraichgauachse. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine 46 km lange Freizeitroute vom Bahnhof Sinsheim-Hoffenheim nach Brühl am Rhein. Als vom Verband Region Rhein-Neckar im „Wettbewerb Landschaft in Bewegung“ prämierte Gewässererlebnisroute lädt die Leimbachroute dazu ein, den namensgebenden Leimbach mit seinen besonderen Orten von der Quelle bis zur Mündung zu erleben. 

Die Odenwaldachse bildet die Radroute „Weschnitztal/Überwald“. Die 58 km lange Radroute ist an die Ringroute angebunden und führt vom Bahnhof in Weinheim durch das Weschnitztal und den Odenwald. Die ausgeschilderte Strecke führt an den Bahnhöfen Birkenau, Mörlenbach, Rimbach und Fürth vorbei. Ein- und Ausstieg in den Routenverlauf können damit im Weschnitztal in Verbindung mit einer Bahnreise erfolgen.

Landschaftspotentiale weiterentwickeln

Das Projekt ist Teil des regionalen Vorhabens „Regionalpark Rhein-Neckar“. Dessen Ziel ist es, die verschiedenen, für die Region so charakteristischen Landschaftsräume miteinander zu verbinden. Das länderübergreifende Gesamtkonzept bildet die Grundlage für das abgestimmte Miteinander von Region, Kommunen und anderen Partnern. Der Regionalpark Rhein-Neckar bietet damit die Möglichkeit, um die Bedeutung der Landschaften in der Region aufzuzeigen, und eine Plattform, um die Landschaftspotentiale im Rahmen der gemeinsamen Regionalentwicklung weiterzuentwickeln.
