Die Ständige Impfkommission am Robert Koch Institut empfiehlt die Impfung für Mädchen zwischen 9 und 14 Jahren. Trotz Impfempfehlung und Kostenübernahme durch die Krankenkassen sind die Impfraten in Deutschland sehr niedrig. 

Wir sind im Rückstand - ganz klar. In Australien und England liegen die Impfraten bei mehr als 80% der entsprechenden Altersgruppen und dort sind auch die Daten bereits verfügbar, dass dieser Impfstoff gegen die Vorstufen von Gebärmutterhalskrebs schützt.

In den Kinderarztpraxen begegnen uns immer wieder Eltern, die aufgrund fehlender Informationen beim Thema Impfen verunsichert sind. Ich freue mich daher, dass wir mit Hilfe des Projekts eine breite Aufklärung über die HPV-Impfung leisten können und auch die Mädchen und Eltern erreichen, die wir nicht in den Kinderarztpraxen antreffen.

Umfassende Aufklärung führt zu erhöhter Impfbereitschaft

Erste Auswertung haben gezeigt, dass sich die Impfbereitschaft deutlich erhöht, wenn Eltern umfassend über die Wirksamkeit und mögliche Nebenwirkungen der Impfung informiert sind. 60 Prozent entschieden sich nach den Elternabenden für die Impfung, 27 Prozent nahmen das Angebot der Schulimpfung in Anspruch. Eine zweite Auswertung bestätigt die Ergebnisse. Demnach entschieden sich 87 Prozent nach den Elternabenden für die Impfung, 38 Prozent nahmen die Schulimpfung in Anspruch. Im nächsten Schritt sollen weitere Teile der Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar von dem Projekt profitieren. 

Das Modellprojekt „Freiwillige HPV-Schulimpfung“ ist ein Projekt der Initiative Prävention in der Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar, die sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, die Vorsorgeraten und das Gesundheitsbewusstsein der Bürger in der Region Rhein-Neckar zu stärken.
